  • Tortoise Switch Machine is a slow-motion switch machine designed for reliable operation of model railroad turnouts. The Circuitron Tortoise Slow-Motion Switch Machine measures 2 inches x 2 inches x 3 1/4 inches and features a simple under-layout mounting design with all necessary linkage included. Its compact enclosed construction makes it suitable for installation beneath a model railroad layout while keeping the operating mechanism protected.
  • The Tortoise Switch Machine is designed with a low current draw, using approximately 4 mA during operation and 15–16 mA at stall. The motor stalls at each end of the throw, eliminating the need for cutoff contacts. This design provides a straightforward approach to operating switch points while reducing the need for additional components in the installation.
  • A precision-engineered gear-drive mechanism provides the slow-motion movement needed for realistic turnout operation. The gear-drive design is engineered as an alternative to screw-drive switch machines and provides controlled movement of the switch points. The mechanism also maintains constant tension on the switch points, helping keep them firmly positioned during operation.
  • The enclosed construction and included linkage make the Tortoise Switch Machine a practical choice for model railroaders building new layouts or adding reliable turnout control to an existing layout. Its slow-motion operation, low current requirements, and under-layout mounting design make it well suited to detailed model railroad applications.
