Gallery of weathered model railroad cars, custom details, and creative model railroading projects from Doc's Caboose and our customers.

This Gallery showcases the incredible work that goes into transforming ordinary model railroad equipment into realistic miniature versions of the real thing. Weathering, repainting, adding details, and creating custom modifications can bring model railroad cars to life and make layouts look more authentic.

An Accurail brand boxcar before weathering shows the clean appearance of a factory-finished model. After weathering, the same Accurail boxcar has been transformed with realistic dirt, aging, and other effects that create the appearance of a car that has spent years working on the railroad.

Doc's own model railroad also features many examples of weathered cars and detailed modeling projects. Each piece demonstrates the creativity and patience that model railroaders put into their layouts.

One of our friends and customers, Mike Philpott, brought in his decorated Atlas cabooses to share with us. The first example is an Atlas N scale AT&SF caboose as it comes directly out of the box. The following examples show the same model after extensive customization, including repainting, new decals, scratch-built grab rails, and modifications to match an actual caboose.

The final version of the caboose includes additional details and realistic weathering. The windows have been covered, and similar graffiti was added to match an actual caboose Mike had seen being used as a shoving platform in Kansas City.

This Gallery highlights the skill and creativity of model railroaders who enjoy adding realistic details to their equipment. From simple weathering techniques to advanced custom modifications, these projects show how much character can be added to a model railroad.

This is the same model of car that's been repainted and decaled as well as scratch made grab rails and the stack moved to match an actual caboose......

And this is the same  model of caboose that's had all the details added, and then weathered.......

The windows have been covered up and similar graffiti added to match an actual caboose that he has seen used as a shoving platform running around Kansas City.
